Greetings Note

IBRC2020 will be held at the ‘Nicolaie Testimitanu’ State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Moldova. This will be the 17th annual conference in a row organized by the International Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy (IBRA), a Tokyo based organization devoted to reshaping the practice paradigm of rehabilitation, according to the contemporary needs of the worldwide aging societies. Extended longevity results in a sharp rise in disease-driven neurological handicap, but also requires novel physiological antiaging strategies, both types of rehabilitation exert the greatest drain on health-care and socio-economic resources.

The aim of IBRA and its conferences has been, from the very start, to convey scientific developments and to create dynamic discussion opportunities concerning a novel rehabilitative paradigm, called ‘motivated exercise’. This new method puts emphasis on the patient motivation to closely cooperate in rehabilitative interventions, particularly in performing prescribed self-exercise with the assistance of technical innovations, which also would ease up the therapists’ role in the process. The issue concerns neurological disabilities caused by cerebral episodes, leading to limb paresis or functional dysfunction in senescence, which are the most common episodes worldwide. Importantly, the value of ‘motivated exercise’ has since been confirmed in brain functional imaging studies, although the new paradigm has not yet been universally accepted.

Success of IBRA as a scientific organization depends on all collaborators and allied professionals who are committed to the development of multiple research projects, both in Japan and in other corners of the world, to scrutinize the value of a new paradigm of medical rehabilitation and to develop international standardization and guidelines for its use.
The IBRC2020 will hopefully strengthen the advancement of scientific knowledge in increasing the quality of rehabilitation and will help disseminate progress in key factors of ‘motivated exercise’.
