President
International Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy

Biophilia Institute, Designated Research Institute by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology

On behalf of the International Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy, I am pleased to announce to my international friends.
I celebrate to hold the 6th International Biophilia Rehabilitation Conference by substantial contents under the chair of IBRC 2008, Professor Mieczyslaw Pokorski in Warsaw of the Republic of Poland. In this twenty-first Century, an aging society is increasing in many countries not only developed countries but also developing countries. In order to establish a sustainable and well aging society, I had started a study group in 1990 as a society for the socio-medical rehabilitation of the 21st century, and we had been able to have the first academic meeting of the Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy in 1998.

We could have a lot of fruits from a wide range of fields not only the medical field but also fields of the philosophy, economy, engineering and/or administration through holding previous International and domestic Biophilia Rehabilitation Conferences as the following:
The 1st IBR Conference 2002 was held by the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands government (Council on Developmental Disabilities) and the International Division of the Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy as joint hosting. The 2nd IBRC 2003 was held Cooperation of Windsor city, Canada obtained the corporation of the city. In the 3rd IBRC 2004 was held in Manila of Philippines and Ms. VENUS M.ILAGAN of the world disabled person league made the keynote lecturer and received the congratulatory address from President Arroyo. The 4th IBRC 2005 was held in Berlin of the Federal Republic of Germany under the cooperation of the Deutsches Rheuma-Forschungszentrum. The 5th IBRC 2006 was held in Perth of Australia.

By progress in the meantime to the IBRC 2008, renaming to the International Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy from the International Division of the Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy was suggested, and the renaming was confirmed by the general assembly of the Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy August 23, 2008 in Oosaka, Japan. In the congratulatory address of holding the IBRC 2008, I declare that we term our international study group the International Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy today September 5, 2008.

In addition, this renaming is a proposal of Ms. Celia Lamkin, M.D. who exerted herself for holding the 1st and the 3rd conferences and I. It is sure that the name, which means to carry out rehabilitation by one's abilities and oneself for overcoming the disabilities and to live independently with overcoming the disabilities, makes our activity bringing people in the world happiness clearer.

Although there have been the organization presence from our history until now, but I hope to make the study group to much more fulfilling contents. Moreover about the chairman's election method and the administration, I would like to clarify those by holding the next IBRC. Moreover, we are adjusting to hold the next IBRC in the U.S., please expect it. It is our great pleasure to have an opportunity of holding the IBRC 2008 here in Warsaw, under the patronage of the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, REGIONAL OFFICE FOR EUROPE, Country Office for Poland.

I am looking forward to a fruitful meeting.
