Greetings

Takizawa, Shigeo

The chief executive officer
International Division of Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy

I am honored to address you as the elected CEO.

I have organized the international conferences from 2002 as this research founder and the related inventor. I had held the conferences as a chair of the first and the second conferences and a holding representative of the past three conferences.

The first conference was held jointly with the Developmental Disabilities Council of CNMI (Saipan, US Commonwealth), and the second conference was held by the supports of CSUN, which is a famous academic conference related to welfare in the world, the Japanese National foundation, Association for Technical Aids and the city of Windsor.

President Arroyo, Republic of the Philippines contributed her honorable congratulatory address to the third Manila conference, and Ms. Ilagan, the chairman of the Disabled Peoples International delivered the keynote lecture.

We are going to hold the fourth conference for 2005 in Germany.

Though we are presently named the "International Division of Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy", we can anticipate our change to the "International Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy" with the members of many countries of the world in the future.

I focused on this research in 1987. It was necessary for me for seven years without any understanding person to get the first one whose name is Takizawa, K. (Physical therapist) in my family. I had quit serving as a statesman during this time.

The Takizawa method for rehabilitation enables us to prevent the aging crisis that is lead by the social security expenditure expansion, which was caused by the aged society due to the aging of the baby boomer generation.

I believed this so, and I made an effort to share this information with many people. Then, a group for the study of rehabilitation known as "21 centuries rehabilitation study group" was organized in 1996 in Japan. The name of the group was later changed to Biophilia Rehabilitation Academy. Presently, we have been re-organized as a Non-Profit Organization by Japanese law.

The etymology of "biophilia" is Latin and is also defined as the instinct of the race preservation in the dictionary. "Bio" and "philia" are Greek and translate as "life" and "love" respectively. The preface of "the revolution of hope" that is described by Erich Fromm who is an American philosopher is a reference for biophilia. He described "Love to the life which still exists in most of us, this latent power that is mobilized can change for the behavior, which brings a change, at the time that the danger threatened life is fully recognized."Biophilia is representative "the heart and/or will that one wants to keep living as a human being with dignity when people became a handicapped person" based on the description.

Looking back on having gone through this, everything seems to be yesterday's concern.I have to say with profound gratitude that the succession nomination by and precious good will of Mr. KisaburoKumayama, the former Chairman of Kanagawa Prefecture senator in 1994 had given me the encouragement to continue the research and diffusion activity in my severe unsalaried everyday life, even I had refused it myself. Now, our research is not just the research of the rehabilitation method, but it is the establishment of the new life culture.

The culture based the acquirement of the independence of the individual disabled elderly lives by improving the movement of the physical function from impairment level. As for Japanese society, it becomes an opportunity to change the national characteristics into the civilized society that is established by the independent living people. About that, Mr.YukichiFukuzawa who is the founder of Keio Gijuku University had supplied a definition for the Japanese society in his work "the outline of the civilization" as "the half-civilized society". He defined "The half-civilized society" as the society that people were dependent on the conventional consuetude such as to rely on the other person to live and the instruction of government officials. We prevail impairment (anatomical body function damage).

Even if the elderly who get disabilities can live independently within the new life culture due to this realization. We are studying with the congregated related research fields including medical science, engineering, social science, dietetics and administration. We are enforcing the interdisciplinary and international research of the multiple fields. The researchers in many countries of the world ensure to realize it within our research scheme. Then, we can prevent the aging crisis without giving an overweight burden of social security expenditures to the next generation. In order to establish evidence of our rehabilitation technique, we are presenting the basic medical science at the conference in 2005.

And also the report of the experience to introduce the method after the 1st conference in Republic of Belau is scheduled in order to diffuse it internationally.Furthermore, approach to establish the sustainable aged society from the engineering will be presented. As the CEO of the International Division, It is great pleasure for me to inform you of our research to establish the new life culture as mentioned.

I will try to make it possible that more researchers and workers on the actual scene in many fields can participate to our academy from now on and also recommend them to present the result of research to the world. Then, I have resolved to contribute to the improvement of mankind's welfare who got existence to the old age with participants.

My best wishes and regards
